Veteran Kannada actor
Ananth Nag -- who recently addressed the students of MES College as part of their MES Cinevedi event -- said that audiences for art films were the heart of Indian cinema. Nag added that the youth should promote and encourage art films. In the past, he said that cinema was a strong medium as it offered entertainment, education and information.
Today, he said that cinema is nothing but entertainment, and that young people should watch Indian art films instead of foreign and animation films. Nag said that since large audiences do not watch art films, it is difficult to get funding for them. He cited the example of MS Sathyus
Bara, which had to be funded with a loan. Sathyu was also present at the event and addressed the students as well. MES Education Centre President Vimala Rangachar and principal of the college Geetha Srinivas were present. The Kannada film
Ijjodu, starring Meera Jasmine, Aniruddha Jatkar and
Sardar Sathya, was screened at the event.
