The team of Shivalinga is starting its victory parade as the film completes a 50-day run in over 100 theatres on Friday. The film has turned out to be one of the biggest hits in recent years. Even as fewer films manage to have a long run at the box office, Shivalinga has managed to do something that is nearly impossible these days. Shivalinga is the second horror film in Shivarajkumar's career.
It was a closely guarded secret and it was only on the film's release that its genre was confirmed. The P Vasu directed film did have a huge opening befitting a Shivarajkumar film but it was the `family audience' that the film makers targeted.Producer KA Suresh said, 'This is the kind of film that needed the family audience to come to the theatres. It is not the kind of film that targets only the hard core fans. We were confident that once the initial two weeks were over, word of mouth publicity would kick in from those who have watched it. Our hunch is proving to be correct.'
The actual number of theatres that would see the film complete 50 days will be known only on Friday. 'The film is expected to shift around in some theatres. So we will know only on Friday, but there would be at least 100 theatres in which it will complete 50 days,' said Suresh. Fans have already made preparations to celebrate the occasion. The first phase of the celebrations kick off on April 2 in Davangere. Shivarajkumar accompanied by his fans will visit single screens in Davanagere, Chitradurga and Tumakuru. His fans' association is handling the celebrations. The following week will see celebrations in Mysuru. The film team is confident of a longer run for the film and the 75th day celebrations are slated for Hubballi.
Buoyed by the success of Shivalinga, Suresh is now gearing up for another film with Shivanna. The film Khadhar was announced along with Shivalinga itself.'The work on the script of Khadhar started more than a year ago. Now that Shivalinga has been appreciated by fans, we have a bigger responsibility to make the next film even bigger and better. The script has been finalised and we are giving it finishing touches. Do not expect the film to go on floors immediately. We are concentrating on Shivalinga. The summer holidays are here and we need to further attract more audience. We are hopeful that the film will have a grand 100 days,' Suresh said.
Khadhar will be directed by debutant Kumar who was an assistant in Govindaya Namaha, which was also produced by Suresh.
