Versatility is the key to audiences’ heart: Dhanveerrah

Two-film-old actor, Dhanveerrah, believes that an actor can be well-rounded only after playing a variety of characters and, over the years, he says he’s followed the same mantra. “I believe in versatility. If you act in more than one film in the same genre, the chances of being typecast are higher. As a newcomer, it is always better to experiment with genres and play a variety of roles so that the audience can get to know your acting prowess. Also, an actor can touch everyone’s heart only after playing a wide range of characters,” he says.

Said to be based on a true story, Dhanveerrah is playing the role of an innocent man wronged by the people in his upcoming film, Kaiva. Directed by Jayathirtha, he says shooting for the movie was a homecoming of sorts, for him. “My parents are from Thigalarpet, which is also where the movie is set in! My parents moved to Rajajinagar after I was born, but we frequented Thigalarpet, so I was totally aware of the Karaga, the culture and the customs surrounding it. This made it easier to inculcate all of it in the film. When Jayathirtha sir narrated the story, it just felt like a sign from the universe,” he shares.

“Apart from the title, we had kept everything under wraps because we believed that our work should do the talking. Since ours was a retro story, we didn’t want the audience to assume that this is ‘just another retro film’,” he says.
‘It was fun to go back in time for the role’
“Going back in time was indeed fun and very challenging. I had to unlearn a lot, and at the same time, learn new mannerisms, behaviour, dressing style; basically every little thing! Jayathirtha sir (director), is an institution of art! He knows how to mould his actors into the character he wants them to play. However, he also prefers us to be as natural as possible on screen and makes sure he captures us in our element.”
