Hegde refuses to be slot into a type and is elated that she’s part of films that are unconventional and filmmakers are encouraging actors like her who don’t subscribe to the industry stereotype of heroines.

One such outing is Venkat Prabhu’s

in which Samyuktha pairs opposite Ashok Selvan of

fame.

“The film has dark humour and everyone in the film is an antagonist. When Venkat Prabhu narrated the script to me, I jokingly asked him if there’s nobody good in the film. And he explained how viewed in their individual situations, they don’t seem so bad,” shares the actor.

Elaborating on her role. Samyuktha says she plays a docile and innocent village girl, married to an older man and who has just arrived in a big city. “The film is set at a time when the internet has just come in and online chats are slowly picking up. She seeks escape from her regular life through this platform and her life takes a turn. And this bit excited me and clinched the film for me,” states Samyuktha.

And working with Venkat Prabhu has been a joyride owing to his jovial attitude, she tells us.

“I’m happy that my career is going in the direction that I’ve always envisioned for myself. Even in Kannada, I’m doing

which is so different from the run-of-the-mill films. It’s a story of an everyday girl with so many layers and I’m happy I am part of a story that shows the gritty and resilient side of women.”

Meanwhile, Samyuktha is off on a one-month road trip to South Africa as part of a television show. “That’s how I want my life to be. I should be able to do a hot film and take off for a few months if I feel like it. I will not take the conventional route of what is expected of actors. Vanity is not my thing. Freedom is,” sums up Samyuktha.
