Actress-turned-politician Umashree was often seen doing emotional scenes onscreen. But, in real life too, the veteran actress is a very sentimental person, especially when it comes to artists whom she has grown up watching. At the recent Aa Na Krishna Rao awards ceremony, where veteran dramatist and actor Master Hirannaiah and senior journalist GN Ranganatha Rao were honoured, Umashree became emotional while recalling her long-term association with the veteran actor.
“As a child, I have watched Master Hirannaiah performing on the stage. I remember vividly how I brought cigarettes for the veteran actor, before his performance. I used to work in a small shop and Master Hirannaiah's theatre troupe performed close to where the shop was located,” recalled a highly emotional Umashree.
With more than five decade of career as an actor and writer in both theatre and films, Master Hirannaiah has vast experience. “I was fed up with my life. It was Aa Na Krishna Rao (Dr AN Krishna Rao, the well-known Kannada writer) who gave me Rs.5000 to support myself. Whenever I eat I remember Aa Na Krishna Rao and while applying makeup I remember Gubbi Veeranna,” recalled Master Hirannaiah.
