'UI' box office collection Day 9: Upendra's film racks Rs 28.20 crore

'UI', directed by and starring Upendra, was released on December 20, 2024, but has received mixed reviews from audiences. Set in a dystopian world, the film made over Rs 90 lakhs.

In its opening week, 'UI' collected approximately Rs 26.3 crore across various languages, including Kannada, Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam, and Hindi. The film started strong with Rs 8.7 crore on its first day but saw a decline in earnings over the following days. On Day 8, it earned Rs 0.95 crore and maintained the same figure on Day 9, bringing its total to around Rs 28.20 crore.

The occupancy rates for 'UI' varied across different languages on December 28. In Kannada, the overall occupancy was 18.38%, with morning shows at 9.98% and night shows reaching 21.99%. The Telugu version had a slightly higher occupancy of 18.59%, while the Tamil version saw an occupancy of 28.81%.

The plot of 'UI' begins with a young woman who becomes a victim of a brutal gang assault. Seeking refuge, she finds shelter with a childless couple, Veeraswamy and his wife. When she goes into labor, Veeraswamy predicts the birth of Kalki Bhagavan, a divine savior. However, when a boy is born just before the auspicious time, he names him Satya, believing him to be a man of ultimate truth.

Upendra plays dual roles as Satya and Kalki in the story that intertwines mythology with contemporary societal issues. The film faced criticism for its chaotic structure and pacing, which some viewers found difficult to follow.
