Tricolour on Parvathamma's coffin: Lawyer files complaint

A city advocate has approached a magistrate court with a private complaint against the draping of the national flag on the coffin of Parvathamma Rajkumar who died earlier this week.

The state government had announced state honours for Parvathamma Rajkumar which involved a gun salute and draping of her coffin with the National Flag. Advocate Chetan has, however, complained that this was a contravention of the Flag Code and an offence under the Prevention of Insult to the National Honour Act, 1971. According to the complaint, this honour can be extended only to military personnel who died on the line of duty. The complaint names the principal secretary to the government of Karnataka, home secretary and the city police commissioner as the offenders. Seen as a driving force behind the super star Rajkumar, Parvathamma was credited with producing over 80 super-hit films.
