As the Kannada film Mareyalaare hits theatres today, director Sharat Khadri can heave a sigh of relief, considering all the obstacles he had to overcome to bring his dream project to the big screen. Produced under his home banner, Surabhi Talkies, the film marks the big-screen debut of TV star Thandav and pairs him with Pavitra Belliappa.

The story explores how the hero and heroine get to know each other, and sees their relationship make the progression from friendship to love. The first half may seem like a traditional love story, but there are certain elements that lead up to the climax, which cannot be missed. In fact, the climax may seem totally unexpected, but audiences will be able to relate to it. That apart, the movie has a message for parents on how to bring up their children, and looks at the challenges that youngsters today face and the means they use to succeed in life. Breezy dialogues that touch on different social issues are likely to click with youngsters,' says Sharat, who plays a transgender in the film. The film also sees veteran actor Avinash in a vital role.
The background music and songs by Arjun Janya will be a highlight, says Sharat, adding that the duet Sparsha and the conceptual number Why Pay More?, which explores inflation, will stand out. 'Mareyalaare is a musical love story with clean, relevant comedy, making this film a must-watch for audiences of all age groups,' says the filmmaker.
