This Day Last Year: 'Vijay Prakash Day’ was proclaimed in North Carolina; the musician reminisces the memorable day with a tweet

Vijay Prakash is a prominent singer and composer in the Kannada film industry. Today is a very special day for Vijay Prakash as, last year, May 12th was officially declared as ‘Vijay Prakash Day’ in America’s North Carolina. It is a matter of pride for the Kannada singer to be honoured with a day being dedicated in his honour, and that too in the USA.
Vijay Prakash remembered the day and shared the official certificate on his Twitter account, saying, “It’s been a year today since proclamation of ‘Vijay Prakash Day’ North Carolina, USA. Sincere thanks to Brian king, Mayor William Dusch, Hearts and Minds.”

Last year, Vijay Prakash performed at the US Concorde. The event was organized by the US Charlotte Kannada Association. Mayor William C. Sikkapatte was delighted to hear Vijaya Prakash’s songs at the event. In the same event, he announced May 12th to be observed as 'Vijaya Prakash Day' which will be celebrated every year.
Vijay Prakash has been a renowned and respected musician since at least two decades as a popular video of him performing a classical song in 1987 at the Lalith Palace in Mysore too is viewed by fans occasionally even today. Vijay Prakash has sung not only Kannada and Hindi songs but also famous tracks in Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam and Marathi. After moving to Mumbai, Vijay Prakash joined Suresh Wadkar as a student and continues to practice music with him even now.
Vijay Prakash became famous after being part of ‘Jai Ho’, composed by AR Rahaman for the film ‘Slumdog Millionaire’. Vijay Prakash's first Kannada song was sung for the movie ‘Galipata’ directed by Yagaraj Bhatt. After that, he sang many popular songs in different languages, and he made his debut as a composer with the movie ‘Andhar Bahar’.
