Films, releases today. The PC Shekar-directorial not only has her in the protagonist’s chair, but is also an attempt at a different genre of cinema, as far as the Kannada film industry is concerned, says the filmmaker. Here, he tells us what makes his film a must-watch this festive season.

• Terrorism is not a subject that is often touched upon in Kannada cinema.
• The concept is new and, hence, the journey that audiences will experience while watching the film will be fresh. The story explores terrorism from the villain’s part and shows the planning and execution of a bomb blast, among others. It is also a story that looks at how terrorism impacts women and how they perceive it, depending on whether they are victims or know the perpetrators.
• Ragini has a new avatar in this film, which will be novel for audiences. People have been accustomed to seeing her in glam or action roles. Her character in The Terrorist is one that brings the actress in her to the fore. Her performance in this film is to look out for.
• The cinematography is worth a mention and adds intensity to the narrative, while the colouring is such to give the film a feeling of depth. There are two primary emotions in the film —pain/anger/revenge and romance/ love — these two extremes have been handled differently onscreen. Since 85% of the narrative follows the pain and anger felt by the protagonist, the pace onscreen is vigorous and the picturisation was done with a shoulder camera to give it a realistic feel, almost akin to the visuals you see on a news channel.
• A lot of detailing has gone into the sound design of the film, which has elevated the movie-watching experience.
