The men of Made In Bengaluru: ‘They are people we interact with daily’
This city of Bengaluru is built by many people, including outsiders. It has this fantastic motherly spirit, which cares for you and looks after you and doesn’t discriminate between natives and outsiders. Since Made In Bengaluru is a tribute to this lovely city, I have based several characters in the film on people we see and interact with every day. While the lead, Madhusudhan Govind, plays an IT employee who quits his job to start his own company, Anant Nag sir plays a Sindhi businessman, Sai Kumar plays a Reddy gangster and Prakash Belawadi will be seen in the role of a ‘dream stealer’, shares director Pradeep Shastry.
Speaking about his character, Anant Nag says, “I play a businessman who speaks in a Hindi-mixed-Kannada accent. I have based this character on distributor Pal Chandani - a dear old friend who backed me and Shankar Nag from the Minchina Ota days. This role is a tribute to his flamboyant personality. When the director narrated this character of a Sindhi businessman, it reminded me of the late distributor. It was beautiful to essay the role with these youngsters.”
For Sai Kumar, who plays a ‘Reddy’ gangster surrounded by bouncers, being part of the film gave him a homecoming feeling. The actor shares: “I too am Made in Bengaluru! In the film, we have shown the motherly spirit of the city. Aeons ago, when my own mother came to this city, she was looked after by Doddataayi Bengaluru. From getting my first recognition as a hero with a Kannada film to contesting elections from Karnataka, I owe a lot to this city. And this film does not have the typical traits of Sai Kumar – the dialogues or the punch in the narrative. It has several comic elements and I enjoyed playing this role.”
Multi-lingual actor Prakash Belawadi plays the role of a dream stealer, who enjoys taking credit for other people’s work. About working in Made In Bengaluru, he said: “I’m pretty much like this hyperventilating energy that the team possesses! I love Bengaluru and this character made me think about the several mentors I met in my life.”
MIB team’s Bengaluru-Verse
To pull the young crowd to theatres, the MIB team, in association with Interality, has created a ‘Bengaluru-Verse’ on Metaverse, where people can experience Bengaluru, enter the world of Made In Bengaluru, interact with the team members, and also take selfies with them via a drone camera, virtually. “Metaverse is the next big thing, and since our film celebrates Bengaluru, which is the IT capital of the world, we decided to do something unique and relatable. Metaverse, a mix of virtuality and reality, was perfect. Bengaluru is a place which experiments and accepts new experiments. This is way ahead of its time, at least here,” shares director Pradeep Shastry.
