Sudeep sir is like a big brother; having him on KD is special: Director Prem

The cast of KD - The Devil just got bigger and better, as Kannada star Sudeep is joining the film for a special cameo. On Saturday, in a post on X, director Prem said, “No more gossips … u r officially one of us….Love u my darling @KicchaSudeep." In a chat with Bangalore Times, Prem shares about how Sudeep has always been the closest person to him in the industry, and he feels elated to have him on board.

‘Sudeep sir is a dream actor for every director’
While the details of Sudeep’s character are still under wraps, talking about having Sudeep on board, Prem Shares, “Sudeep is my darling, he is like my big brother. Apart from movies, he is always supporting me, whenever I call him, even if it is 6 am or 9 pm, he is ready. He is every director’s dream.” Talking about what it feels like to collaborate with someone so close to him, he adds, “Whenever I work with Sudeep sir, I am happy 24/7. He is such an amazing actor. What he has done with his character in this film will really surprise the audience.”

‘I cast my actors based on the demands of the script’
“I don’t keep actors in mind and write the script; I always cast actors who I think will meet the demands of the script. When it’s this way, I’m happy shooting. There have been instances where I have shot Sudeep for a scene, and I’ve whistled and hooted right after the shot, mesmerised by his performance,” shares Prem when asked about the casting of the film.

‘I usually do one film a year, but KD took time because it’s special’
The film also stars Sanjay Dutt and Shilpa Shetty, making it a star-studded affair. “With Sanjay sir, Shilpa ma’am and now Sudeep sir, the film is getting bigger and bigger. This is a massive project with a lot of VFX work, and we tried to recreate old Bangalore for the film. I usually do one film a year, but this one has taken time because it is so special,” he shares. At the end, he promises that fans can expect a spectacular cinematic experience with this one.

The film also features Dhruva Sarja, Reeshma Nanaiah, Ravichandran, Ramesh Aravind, and Bollywood actors Sanjay Dutt and Shilpa Shetty. Produced by Venkat K Narayana, with music by Arjun Janya and cinematography and editing by William David and Srinivas P Prabhu, respectively, KD – The Devil is set to see a September release.
