Actress Sonu Gowda is thrilled to see a positive shift in the portrayal of women in films. “When I started my career, female actors were primarily offered run-of-the-mill, stereotypical roles. However, as women’s role in society evolves so does their depiction in cinema,” says Sonu, who will soon commence shooting for her new project, a Kannada film titled Sidlingu 2.
“The story of Sidlingu 2 will take on a fresh approach to the storyline in the original film, Sidlingu. However, there won’t be any reliance on double entendres. The director, Vijayaprasad, has an interesting way of presenting his characters. His films always offer strong roles for female leads.”

Looking back at her own career, Sonu acknowledges some early choices that may not have reflected her full potential as an actor. “Maturity leads to a change in perspectives and vision. This growth is definitely showing in the way I am choosing scripts lately. I’m now being more intentional with the roles I take on,” she says.

‘Female-driven stories resonate with audiences’“Film writers are realising the immense contribution women are making in every
aspect of life. This is reflected in the way
scripts are written today, therefore offering actresses more powerful characters on screen,” says Sonu, who also feels that a lot of the recent releases at the cinema halls have proved that “female-driven stories tend to resonate better with audiences.”
