One of Shivarajkumar's new films, Shivalingu, is a horror film. This is the first time in nearly three decades that Shivarajkumar has returned to this genre. It was in 1988 that he acted in the horror film Samyukta. After that, there never rose such an opportunity. Though Shivalingu has been in the making for some time now, not even the slightest hint that it is a horror film had been revealed by the film team.
"I am usually offered action films, and for most of the films the same stories are narrated to me. It was time to take a break from such films. When P Vasu who has made films like Aptharakshaka narrated the story of Shivalingu, I had no hesitation in accepting it. I have acted in very few such films in my career. Horror films have been very rare. I have no doubt that Shivalingu will be the best horror film of my career," Shivarajkumar said.
The actors upcoming films are all unique. While Shivalingu is a horror film, Santeyalli Ninta Kabeera is on the life of saint Kabir. Another film Killing Veerappan is based on the police hunt for Veerappan.
Sandalwood is also witnessing a 'horror boom'. In the last two months half a dozen horror films have released and there are a dozen more waiting to scare the audience in the next two months.
After the health scare earlier this month, it was expected that Shivarajkumar will take rest for at least one month. But the actor surprised every one by attending the launch of his yet another new film Srikanta within two days.
"Producers have invested crores on each venture. I know each day is important for them. I returned home from hospital very early. My wife is very concerned about my health and wanted me to take a long break. But I felt getting back to work was important. So I called up the producers and directors of my films and asked them to start work. They, too, wanted me to take rest for some more time. But I am fine and there is no problem in getting back to work. Thus Srikanta was launched. I also completed dubbing for Killing Veerappan," Shivarajkumar said.
