Single screen Shantala Theater in Mysore to shut down as a result of the pandemic?
The lockdown because of the Coronavirus pandemic has created huge chaos across India. The Kannada film industry has also faced a huge problem. Now, the Karnataka government has brought about relaxations in film shootings and has allowed filming with certain restrictions. All filmmakers are, therefore, planning to resume shooting. Meanwhile, the theatres are still closed for safety purposes, which is affecting many theatre owners.

As per sources, Shantala Theater, popularly known as 'Family Talkies' in Mysore is being permanently shut as a result of the lockdown. This has made many people unhappy as the iconic theatre has screened many evergreen films here.
Shantala Theater was launched in 1976, and was a favourite among directors as well as audiences. The theatre has showcased many movies of Rajkumar, Shankar Nag, Vishnuvardhan, Ambareesh, Sudeep, Darshan and Yash.
Leading actors and directors of the film industry have watched their own films in this theatre. All sectors have been hit by the lockdown, but it has shown a more severe effect on theatres. The owners of the movie hall have apparently decided to close the 44-year-old theatre as it is facing financial problems. However, there has been no confirmation from the owners yet.
Many single-screen theatres across Karnataka are also facing the same problem, and it is a growing fear that they too might have to shut down permanently as an after-effect of the pandemic.
