Kannada actor Srinagara Kitty has been missing in action from screens for two years — his last release was Namaste Madam. While he has been busy making films, for reasons beyond his control, some of them have not seen the light of day, even though they are nearly complete. But with his latest,

Siliconn City

, gearing up to hit screens this month, the actor is elated. Not only because it gives him a release, but also because he believes that the subject is relevant to the times we live in and will have audiences relating to events in it. In a quick chat with Bangalore Times, the actor tells us what drew him to the project and more...
Even though you were not seen onscreen, you have always been at the forefront when it comes to supporting the cause of Kannada cinema, be it doing cameos or voice-overs, among others, in other films. What drives this passion?
After Namaste Madam, I was busy with three other films — Paapu, Anarkali and Siliconn City. The shoot for one song is pending for Paapu, while Anarkali is stalled because the producer passed away. Siliconn City would have released earlier, but the demonetization drive slowed it down and we are now ready to hit screens. Personally, I wasn’t affected by demonetization. As far as I am concerned, the love, respect and faith that you have in people is more important than money. This is also why I associate myself with the works of others in the Kannada film industry. Not long ago, even I was a newcomer and there were people who trusted me, gave me work and brought me up to where I am today. It is, therefore, imperative that I do my bit for the industry and support others in whatever way I can.
With a title like Siliconn City, audiences may think that it is a film about the software boom that Bengaluru witnessed...
Our film has nothing do with that. For starters, let me be clear that this is the Kannada

remake

of the Tamil film Metro, which we have adapted to suit our nativity. Yes, it is entirely about Bengaluru and events that occur in the current scenario, and there are family emotions, love and criminal activities as part of the narrative. Director Murali Gurappa asked me to watch the original and I really liked the story, which has a very positive feel to it. One of the elements that we changed was the level of crime and violence, which we have toned down massively in our version and, instead, compensated with romance and family sentiments. My role in Siliconn City is also different and the team has worked on it with great passion. It gives me great joy to have been a part of the film.
