Sex scandal update: Chetan asks Sandalwood to clean up
Actor Chetan is never shy of voicing his opinion, be it on the Modi sarkar, Smriti Irani's ignorance or the latest sex scandal in Sandalwood, he never minces his words when calling something wrong. The actor posted a note on his Facebook page praising the sting operations and asked Sandalwood to clean up its act. Please find his note below...
"A popular, Kannada tv news source has uncovered the seedy underbelly of our Kannada Film Industry (KFI)—in regards to ‘casting couch’ allegations-- via sting operations, candid testimonials, studio discussions, etc.
1x1 polls
Although this report may be causing anxiety & humiliation to many of us in the industry-- most of whom are connected to issues of sexual harassment solely through indirect associations rather than direct involvement-- we must acknowledge that shedding public light on concerns often swept under-the-rug will have positive, long-term benefits for the growth of Kannada cinema in particular & art as a whole.
First off, as we are all aware, sexual harassment in the workplace is both legally prohibited & morally unconscionable. Like any office work atmosphere—public or private—the film industry (regardless of its glamour quotient) is also a professional environment where sexual impropriety through promises of roles/rewards, bullying & power-plays, verbal & physical assault, inappropriate sexual conduct/advances, etc., cannot & should not be condoned.
Those in positions of power & respect such as cinema elders, association heads, producers, directors, lead roles, as well as all other industry personnel have multiple-fold ethical responsibilities for the sake of social well-being & artistic harmony that include the following: one, to make the overall work atmosphere safe for everyone, especially newcomers & female team members—many of whom are outnumbered on the sets 50 to 1 or even more; and two, to hold those-- who take advantage of our most vulnerable teammates for their own sexual or egotistical gratifications-- accountable & liable for their actions regardless of status & influence.
If our industry is to grow & prosper—and concurrently, our languages, arts, & cultures, it is not only through hard work but talent & creativity. For this to happen, we need to open our doors to fresh ideas & new blood…
By publicly denouncing such nefarious activities and calling out those involved in them, we deter future acts of sexual harassment, strengthen the confidence of women & sincere workers inside the industry, and give ourselves an image makeover we so require.

We hope this attitudinal, behavioral shift can, in the near future, attract many more passionate youth & capable graduates—women & men— to enter & enhance our film fold, as they will neither fear an intimidating cinema industry nor the apprehensions of their families &/or social circles.
Also, it’s about time we, in KFI, instead of pretending that those 5 or 6 mentioned named are mere exceptions, take a hard look at ourselves…as male leads, producers, directors, actors, technicians, coordinators, etc.…….and start working together in the best interest of a larger artistic vision instead of personal fame, financial glory, & sexual indulgence.
Thank you, news channel, for calling it like it is……now it’s our turn to fix it.
With Ahimsa,
Chetan"
