These days, Sanjjanaa Galrani is busy shooting for her Telugu TV series, Swarna Khadgam, which sees her in four different roles — an empress, a fierce warrior, a lover and a girl next door. Made by one of the largest television networks in the country — Arka Mediaworks and Eenadu — the series is a period drama that is set in various realms of the universe.
Sanjjanaa, aka Maharani Mahaadhatri, says that her four different looks represent the different realms. “Unlike a film, these four shades will continue throughout the series and audiences will get to see me go full circle with this role,” she says. Ask her which her favourite is and Sanjjanaa says, “That’s hard to say, but I would pick the warrior. Normally, we require a hairdresser and makeup artiste on location, but the action sequences are so taxing that I need a physiotherapist with me 24x7 when I am shooting. It’s made me realise how much work goes into historical subjects.”
Speaking of her dream role — one that she compares to Prabhas in
Baahubali — Sanjjanaa adds that working with director Yata Satyanarayana (who is often referred to as the SS Rajamouli of TV) took the series to another level. “And there is no language barrier as well, since the producers will be screening it in different languages across the country,” she adds.
VASAVADUTTA — A MYTHOLOGICAL FILMIt seems to be a season of period subjects for Sanjjanaa, as she began work on her Kannada-Malayalam film Vasavadutta yesterday. Telling us more about the film that will be dubbed in Telugu, Tamil and Hindi, she says, “In this mythological film, I play a mysterious queen, who is an Indian version of Cinderella. The commercial film is packed with drama and romance.”
