Veteran Sandalwood director Vijay Reddy breathed his last in Chennai, on Friday. He has directed super hit Kannada movies like Rangamahal Rahasya, Gandhada Gudi, Mayura, Naa Ninna Bidalaare, Srinivasa Kalyana, Sanaadi Appanna and Karnataka Suputhra. Apart from directing over 40 Kannada films, he has also directed Hindi, Telugu, Tamil and Malayalam movies as well.

Mourning the death of the actor, Srinath says, “In the first two movies that Vijay Reddy directed in Kannada, I acted as a hero. Since then our friendship started growing stronger. We used to speak over the phone at least once a month. When I spoke to him last, he had spoken about his ill-health. It is sad that we have lost a legendary director. As a person, he was very calm, always had a smile on his face and whatever be the circumstances, he never lost his temper. Let his soul rest in peace.”
The last movie that Vijay Reddy directed in Kannada was Vishnuvardhan starrer Karnataka Suputhra, which was released in 1996. Vijay Reddy was supposed to direct Bhaktha Ambareesha, which was the ambitious project of late actor Dr Rajkumar. In fact, the muhurtha was also held, but due to various reasons, the project got shelved.
Vijay Reddy was born in Tadepalligudem of West Goadavari district of Andhra Pradesh. He entered the film industry in the year 1953 as an assistant editor for B Vittalacharya’s movie, Mane Tumbinda Hennu
