Sandalwood films make profits in 2013
While Sandalwood has seen quite a few disasters this year, the industry seems to recover its losses. With the recent Prem-Meghana starrer Charminar becoming a block-buster, the film has not only received appreciation by critics and the general audience but has also taken Sandalwood films to a greater height. Another film which saw considerable success is Gombegala Love, starring newcomers Arun and Pawana.

Though it might have not opened to a great number, the film has been well received by critics.
The year, which started with Ajith starrer Ee Bhoomi Aa Bhaanu, did not keep quite see the cash registers ringing. While Shivarajkumar starrer Lakshmi is said to have lost around four crore, Yogi-Raagini starrer Bangaari, three crore and Prajwal Devaraj starrer Galaate, three crore, films like Sandalwood Sarigama completely failed to recover budget.
Only Sudeep starrer Varadanayaka managed to get a profit even before its release. The film having become a mega hit, has managed to earn good profits because of Sudeep's popularity after Eega. With many films losing back to back, Charminar is considered to be the first hit film of 2013. The film which is made with a budget of three crore is already on the verge of recovering its investment and will rake huge profits in the second week, if the trend continues. However, it is too early to predict the films performance at the box-office.
