Ace director S Narayan, who was applauded for his blockbuster films like Cheluvina Chitara and Shabdavedi has decided to quit filmmaking. Narayan, who started his film career in 1986 with Chaitrada Premajali, has decided to retire from the film industry after his last film Munjaane tanked at the box office. Its not just because of the poor response that my film Munjaane received, but I am also unhappy with the way the industry is progressing.
I dont see any sort of discipline here. As a director, I have never seen such indiscipline and non-cooperative stars in my professional stint before. The current lot of actors are least concerned about directors and producers, says Narayan adding, For instance, when I started the shooting for Munjaane, I had the whole team including technicians and actors around me. Today when it failed at the box office everyone left me. I was hurt.
Narayan also seemed to be upset with the lead actor who didnt wish to take part in the promotional activities of the film. As a star of the film, if he does not want to get involved in the promotional activity, why should we do the movie? Our team did not co-operate for the marketing activities and didnt create any hype to attract the audience. If our fellow Kannadigas are not ready to accept our films, why should we continue doing them? he asks.
Though his next outing Appayya with Srinagar Kitty is in post production stages, the director does not wish to take up anyother projects. I dont wish to do any more films as I dont see morality. I end my direction career with Appayya, he signs off.
