Rishab Shetty follows Yash, enters profit-sharing deal for 'Kantara: Chapter 1': Reports

Kannada star Rishab Shetty gave one of the biggest films of 2022, 'Kantara' and is gearing up for the release of 'Kantara: Chapter 1', which will serve as a back story of his film. Latest reports suggest that the actor-director has landed a staggering deal for the upcoming project.

As per a Koimoi report, Rishab Shetty has reportedly been given a massive pay hike, which will be nearly 25 times what he earned for the original film. 'Kantara' earned Shetty a National Award and also went on to rake in over Rs 400 crore at the global box office. For that project, Rishab had reportedly taken home around Rs 4 crore. But for the upcoming prequel, 'Kantara: Chapter 1', he is said to be earning a whopping Rs 100 crore overall, making it one of the biggest compensation packages in South Indian cinema.


This huge paycheck includes his responsibilities as the actor, director and writer of the film. Of the reported Rs 100 crore, he has already received an upfront payment of Rs 50 crore.

Another important aspect of his earnings will reportedly come through profit sharing. Following in the footsteps of several other major stars like Yash, Rishab is said to have secured a percentage of the post-release profits, which could further increase his total earnings depending on how the film performs at the box office.

'Kantara Chapter 1' will further explore the folklore and mysticism that made the original film such a phenomenon and delve into the past.

Recently, the makers released a new poster of the film where Rishab Shetty's character is seen in an intense look, holding an axe and a shield. The poster seems to show that he is set to indulge in a ruthless battle. The makers captioned the post, "Where legends are born and the roar of the wild echoes… #Kantara – A prequel to the masterpiece that moved millions."
