Today, it is three years since the Kannada film industry lost one of its biggest pillars of strength,
Parvathamma Rajkumar. She has been the silent force behind not just Sandalwood's premier film family but also a strong female voice in the industry who showed that a woman can be one of the best producers in the Indian film industry, carving a distinct place for herself in an otherwise male dominated field with her sharp business acumen.
Parvathamma was the strong force behind the careers of not just Dr Rajkumar but also her three sons - Shivarajkumar, Raghavendra and Puneeth Rajkumar.
Apart from them, Parvathamma is credited to have launched some of the brightest female stars that the Kannada film industry has seen - these include Sudharani, Malashree, Rakshitha and Ramya.
In her career as a producer that spanned many decades, Parvathamma had produced as many as 80 films, almost all of them being big money spinners. After the demise of Dr Rajkumar, she was the matriarch who took charge of her family. It seems like her legacy is all set to continue in the industry with five of her grandchildren entering it. While Vinay and Yuva Rajkumar and Dheeren and Dhanya Ramkumar have taken to acting - Niveditha Shivarajkumar is foraying into production, much like her grandmother.
