Kannada actor-director V Ravichandaran has immersed himself in the world of music lately. While the shoot for his son Manoranjan’s debut, Ranadheera — Premalokadalli, is on track, the Crazy Star, who is also directing the film, has now taken on the music department as well, as he has ‘big plans’. The film, we hear, will have as many as 40 songs, and that is no mean task for one man.“Initially, I had music director Hamsalekha on board for this magnum opus. But he realized that I had an idea in mind for each of the songs. So, instead of having him work based on what I had in mind, we decided it would be best if I did it myself,” says Ravichandaran.
Of the musical, the actor-director explains, “When I say 40 songs, I don’t mean all of them will be around 4-5 minutes long. You see how ad filmmakers manage to tell you an entire story in just 30 seconds? That is what I am attempting to do. There are so many numbers in the film, each one with its own story for the moment.”
And where does he draw inspiration from for so many songs at a stretch? “I love music, and I love the idea of love. When you feel love, you can get inspired by just about anything. I am good at writing and directing love stories, and this one will be just that — a love story. There is the challenge of meeting the standard that both my films Ranadheera and Premaloka once created. We have a lot of expectations to meet,” says Ravichandaran.
