Two people have been arrested in Bengaluru after actress and former Lok Sabha member from Mandya constituency Ramya complained that she was facing defamation, sexual, and death threats on social media. Ramya had filed a complaint with Bengaluru Police Commissioner Seemant Kumar Singh on July 28, alleging that 43 social media accounts had posted openly derogatory posts against her.

Following the complaint, the Central Crime Branch (CCB) and the Social Media Monitoring Unit of the police jointly conducted an investigation and seized corroborating evidence related to 13 accounts, as per Decan Herald. Bengaluru Police Commissioner Seemant Kumar Singh said two of them have been arrested over the complaint. He said the identities of 11 others have been confirmed, and they will be arrested soon. Police said the threats began after Ramya shared news about the Supreme Court hearing in the Renukaswamy murder case on July 24.

PTI reported that actor Darshan is the main accused in this case. It has also been reported that the two arrested are from districts surrounding Bengaluru. Investigations are ongoing to determine whether they are fans of Darshan.
These measures are considered an important step towards curbing the ongoing psychotic threats against celebrities online.
