In February, we had reported that veteran director
Rajendra Singh Babu will direct a movie based on the Kambala race. The movie has now been titled
Veeram Kambala
. The same project which is getting dubbed in Tulu as well, is titled
Bidrad Kambula
.

Rajendra sigh Babu had camped in Moodabidri for few days to recce for his film. In an interview with us, Rajendra Singh Babu had said, “Kambala, which has a history of over 500 years, has remained an unexplored topic in Kannada cinema. I have started work on the script based on my research that involved interactions with organisers like K Gunpala Kadamba, the president of
Kambala Academy
and founder secretary of
Dakshina Kannada Kambala Committee
. Kambala is an integral part of Tulu culture and religious beliefs associated with the race and its preparations will be showcased in the movie.”
The director plans to begin shooting from November as Kambala race is staged during that time in the coastal region of Karnataka and will wrap up shoot by February. The star cast is yet to be revealed.
