Power Star Puneeth Rajkumar lives on not just in the hearts of his loved ones, but also in those who have benefited from his eye donation.
Following in the footsteps of his late father, Dr Rajkumar, Puneeth had decided to donate his eyes, which were successfully transplanted to four people – three men and a woman.
After Puneeth’s death on Friday, the stem cells from the eye were harvested and stored.

Dr Bhujang Shetty told the media, “If the eyes of a person are in a healthy state, it can be transplanted to four people, using modern technology. It is the for first time that such an experiment has been carried out successfully in Karnataka. The cornea of each eye was sliced into half, with the front portion given to one beneficiary and the second portion to another person. All the beneficiaries from Karnataka who have received the transplant are responding well after the operation.” Puneeth’s brothers, Raghavendra Rajkumar and Shivarajkumar, have also pledged to donate their eyes.
Padma for Puneeth?
Former chief minister Siddaramaiah and fans of Puneeth Rajkumar have demanded that the Centre confer a Padma award on late actor Puneeth Rajkumar for his services to Kannada through his acting and singing.
Siddaramaiah tweeted, “The love & affection Power Star Puneeth Rajkumar has gained is bigger than any title or award. I urge @PMOIndia to award the Padma Shri posthumously to Puneeth Rajkumar. His acting & contribution to society deserves even more accolades (sic).”

Meanwhile, chief minister Basavaraj Bommai said that they would, in the next few dates, discuss conferring the Karnataka Ratna award on Puneeth
Haalu Thuppa ritual
Haalu Thuppa, a post-death ritual, was performed by Puneeth’s wife Ashwini, daughters Drithi and Vanditha, brothers Raghavendra Rajkumar, Shivarajkumar, Vinay Rajkumar, Yuva Rajkumar and other family members at his samadhi.
The samadhi, which was out of bounds for visitors, is likely to be opened for public viewing from tomorrow.
Shivamogga road renamed
As Puneeth’s fans all over are yet to come to terms with the loss, fans in Shivamogga district have named a road after the late actor.
