Puneeth Rajkumar’s song for Vikas’ next is out

The love song that Puneeth Rajkumar, who apart from being an actor is a sought-after singer too, has sung in actor-director Vikas’ next film is now out. “Puneeth sir was excited when we offered him the song. He said he loves singing melodious, romantic numbers, and was happy to come on board,” says Vikas. Music for the song, titled Kaledhoda Kaalidaasa, is composed by Gummineni Vijay, while the lyrics are written by Dr V Nagendra Prasad. It’s a dream sequence that features the hero (played by Vikas), who is smitten by the heroine’s character (essayed by Sindhu Loknath).

Speaking of his equation with Puneeth, Vikas says that he considers it a ‘cosmic connection’. “It goes back to my initial days of acting. I was an editor then and had gone to attend the shoot of a serial. I walked in and I heard Puneeth sir look at me and say, ‘why don’t you take this boy, he fits the part’. I had no clue what he meant then. But it turned out that for the serial that they were shooting, they required an actor to play the role of a software engineer. And that’s how my acting career begun, which gave me recognition across Karnataka,” explains Vikas.

And the ‘connection’ didn’t end there, he says. “When I was looking to take a break from acting, my friend Soori took me on board the technical team of the Puneeth-starrer, Jackie. His mother’s name in that film is Jayamma, and my first film as a director was also titled

,” explains Vikas, adding that even the title Kaanadante Maayavadanu has a Puneeth connection. “We had tried more than 60 titles, but many were pre-registered. Then out of the blue, director Raj Pathipati suggested Kaanadante Maayavadanu. When I heard it, I knew that it fits. It’s the title of the song Puneeth sir sang as a child artiste. It was only fitting that he was involved in this film too,” Vikas sums up.
