Piracy has been cinema's goliath since one could remember. The practice has been prevalent across cinema industries of the world and many attempts have been over the years to curtail it. Surprisingly, most of the steps taken against piracy have proven to be redundant and with the presence of OTT now, it does seem that reproducing content without permission has gotten easier.
Well, it looks likw we finally have a solid solution to the problem and one that is homegrown too! Techies Durga Prasad and Rahul Reddy had been working on the fix and have arrived with a mobile application that will possibly impede piracy.
According to the innovators, any theatre that employs the app - called 'Fende' - will be able to control the potential misdeed. If one were to sit in a theatre and record the film on their phones, the app would intervene immediately and block the entire audio part of the recording. The unauthorized will thus only consist of the video segment. Along with this, the users of the app (theatre owners) will be able to determine the exact location from which the recording is being made and an alert message will be sent right away to both theatre owners and the nearest police station.
The ingenious idea has already been embraced by the Kannada Film Industry and in a recently conducted event, Powerstar Puneeth Rajkumar graciously launched the Fende app. He was joined by veteran filmmaker S.V. Rajendra Singh Babu, actress
Shruthi, and a few others from the industry who tested the app while on stage to great results. Hopefully, theatre owners will benefit extensively from this novel idea.
