Producer and actress Komal Unawnay, who has previously produced films like 'One Way Ticket' and 'Bicycle Boys' in Hindi, has acquired the rights for the official remake of
Anup Bhandari's 2015 blockbuster '
RangiTaranga
'. Talking about how the idea for the remake came about, Komal shares: "I really like films from the south and when my writer-director Lucky Hansraj narrated the story to me, I immediately liked it. The film has won many awards, including four at the 63rd Filmfare Awards South (Best Film, Director, Supporting Actor, and Playback Singer (female)), this will be a trend changer in the horror-mystery genre."
About the making of the film, she further adds: "We are already in talks with actors and will soon announce the cast of the film. We will be releasing it next year and have already begun the pre-production work, along with location recce".
'RangiTaranga' was Anup Bhandari's debut film which also launched his younger brother,
Nirup Bhandari, along with
Radhika Narayan and
Avantika Shetty. Apart from the commercial exploits, the film also beckoned a much-required change into the Kannada Film Industry. Komal adds that making a remake comes with a huge responsibility and states: "As a wide audience has already seen the film, the challenge would be to find a new treatment so that the audience finds it refreshing.
