Pregnancy invites a different kind of scrutiny on social media: Sushmitha Ashwin
For actress Sushmitha Ashwin, pregnancy has been both beautiful and demanding. Candidly reflecting on the mental and physical changes this phase has brought, she says, “Preparing for motherhood has taught me patience—something I hadn’t embraced fully before. I used to be constantly busy and worried about everything. Now, it’s about slowing down, taking care of my health, and embracing a positive mindset despite the challenges.” Pregnancy has also strengthened her resilience to negativity, she tells us. “I don’t react to negative comments anymore,” Sushmitha shares. “I’ve learned to be patient and simply enjoy my pregnancy while caring for my health and the baby.”
‘I GET A LOT OF UNSOLICITED ADVICE ON HOW I SHOULD BEHAVE’
Despite the overwhelmingly positive response to her social media content, Sushmitha admits that pregnancy has brought a different kind of scrutiny. “I receive a lot of unsolicited advice on how I should behave during pregnancy,” she reveals. Comments telling her not to make videos, not to show her stomach, or not to dance are frequent. While such messages can be frustrating, she says she refuses to let negativity affect her. “They try to decide what I’m supposed to do, but it doesn’t bother me. Instead, I focus on creating relatable content that connects with my audience rather than dwelling on a few critics,” she says.
'LOVE MOCKTAIL TEAM ACCOMMODATED MY PREGNANCY WITH THOUGHTFUL SCHEDULING'
Sushmitha is reprising her role as Jankana in Love Mocktail 3. Though a cameo, her portrayal of a ‘posh matchmaker speaking in a North Karnataka accent’ had won her many fans. For Love Mocktail 3, the production ensured her comfort on set by thoughtfully adjusting the schedule to accommodate her pregnancy, allowing her to concentrate fully on her performance despite physical demands. Reflecting on the team’s dynamic, she says, “Unlike many sets where actors receive dialogues on the spot, here we rehearse extensively before shooting, which builds confidence and ease. Off-camera, we celebrate birthdays and special occasions together, forging bonds beyond the professional.”
