When Madhuri Bhattacharya signed up for a Kannada film after a hiatus, that too in a deglam role, little did she reckon that deglam meant no makeup at all. But with AKK Entertainment Pvt Ltds Prasaad finally hitting screens in the city and critics applauding the film, Madhuris glad she played the role. Its a great moment for me. When I was told that I would be playing mother to a young child, clad in a sari with no makeup, I wasnt really prepared to face the camera.
But director Manoj Sati and my co-star
Arjun Sarja convinced me that the look would be realistic. In fact, Arjun told me that Id have to be the character and not Madhuri. He asked me to think beyond whether I would look good or not in every shot, says Madhuri. Now that the film has reached its intended audience, how does she feel? Good and nervous. There are some films that bring you fame, others that get you money. Prasaad gives you satisfaction, she says.
Arjun, who plays her husband in the film chips in, Its more than satisfaction. This is a film that has a message and we are proud to show it to the world. Ive done 150 films so far, and every time a film releases, I feel good about my work reaching the audience. I am proud of this film.
Prasaad, the story of a middle-class family and their speech and hearing impaired child, features Sankalp, who suffers from the disability in real, in the lead. And for Madhuri and Arjun, the happiest moment was when producer Ashok Kheny sponsored Sankalps surgery. Today, Sankalp can hear with a hearing aid. During the making of the film, we had met his parents and seen how others reacted to Sankalp. In fact, mothers of other children wouldnt let their children interact with him, because they had to communicate with him using sign language. His life will be different now and we are glad about that, says Madhuri.
