Yogaraj Bhats upcoming film Drama went through a series of changes over the last couple of months. First, it was Bhamaa who was dropped from the film, and later it was Prakash Raj who opted out of the project. But Yogaraj has now firmed up the cast and is looking forward to finishing the project in the next couple of months. When Prakash Raj opted out of the project owing to his mothers ill health, names like
Atul Kulkarni and
Sarath Kumar were being bandied about as his possible replacement.
But finally the director zeroed in on Kollywood actor
Sampath Kumar for the role.
When we contacted Yogaraj, he confirmed the news. Its not fair on our part to ask Prakash to do the film when his mother is hospitalized. He gave us some dates in July, but we wanted to complete filming by then. Our next choice was Sampath. I was impressed with his performance in
Aaranya Kandam and thats why I chose him for this role. Though its a fathers role, his character is crucial to the subject. We will begin his schedule by June end, says Yogaraj.
Sampath, whod earlier done a couple of Kannada films like
Jackie and
Jarasandha, is elated about joining the cast and crew of Drama. Hats off to Yogaraj for coming up with this interesting role. The twists and turns my character takes make my role very unique, says Sampath. Prod him about playing a dads role and he says, I am an actor and should be open to playing any kind of role. As long as the role is interesting, I am OK with it.
This is the first time Sampath will be working with Yogaraj for a project. We met at the airport during the making of
Mungaru Male and we discussed working together in the future. I am glad that we are finally doing a film together. Hes extremely talented and easy to work with. I even suggested a couple of sketches for my role and he readily agreed to experiment with it. I am looking forward to the shoot, he says.
