The year 2013 has been a good one as far as the Kannada film industry is concerned. The year not only saw more and more filmmakers choosing experimentation cinema, but also gave a platform to several new actors, and that too those that do not belong to a film family or have a godfather in the industry. Budding stars like Sathish Neenasam, Shruthi Hariharan,
Shwetha Srivatsav, Rakshith Shetty and Dhananjay have all managed to leave a mark on audiences.
They have not only made successful debuts, but have also made them in films of substance.
Sathish, who debuted as a lead actor this year, possibly made the biggest impact after starring in two
hatke films —
Lucia and
Dyavare. Shruthi, who also debuted with the critically-acclaimed
Lucia, has left audiences asking for more. Shwetha and Rakshith, who at first glance seem like an odd couple, managed to warm hearts in
Simpleag Ondh Love Story. And Dhananjay showed that he is a force to be reckoned with in
Director’s Special. All of them sure seem set on the path to stardom.
