Native stories truly connect with audiences, says Sriraju
Director Sriraju’s upcoming film Kothalavadi, starring Pruthvi Ambaar and Kavya Shaiva, is set against the rural backdrop of Chamarajanagar district in Karnataka. The film takes its name from a real village where it was extensively shot to draw attention to the pressing rural issues. “Farmers are the backbone of our country, but their problems remain largely unresolved,” says Sriraju.
“Through Kothalavadi, we seek to highlight certain challenges, especially in Karnataka. Although we are advancing in other sectors, we must also look to ensure that farmers also benefit from it, starting with education in farming,” he adds.
Emphasising the importance of storytelling, he shares, “My creative process is rooted in local culture and tradition. I believe stories set in rural India emotionally connect with the audience. Directly or indirectly, agriculture is tied to every individual, and I have tried to bring that connection through this film.” The film also explores how innocent villagers who struggle with financial hardship fall prey to scams. “This story is not only fiction but also mirrors the reality of today’s time,” Sriraju notes.
