One of Kannada cinema's most popular comedy stars, Sharan, is ready with his latest '

Nataraja Service

' a film that plays on his forte, yet is different within the ambit of the genre. In a quick chat with us, ahead of the release of the film, the actor speaks about what drew him to the project.
According to director

Pavan Wadeyar

, Nataraja Service was conceived years ago, as a follow-up to his debut,

Govindaya Namaha

. 'Back then, Pavan had offered me the film, but it did not work out. If it had, it would have been his and my second film. Normally, when a team tries to collaborate and fails and later succeeds, it is for a totally different project. But in our case, nearly four years later, we are here with the same film that we proposed back then. I guess, Nataraja Service was destined to be mine,' says Sharan.

One among the many things that the actor looks for in a script ' considering that audiences expect him to deliver rib-ticklers ' is that the story should seamlessly blend comedy and a take on human values. 'When you think of a Sharan film, what comes to mind is a loud comedy with a lot of people onscreen. This film breaks that mould, and, given the characterization, audiences will see me in a different light,' he says.
In the film, Sharan plays a petty thief who has to go on the run with the heroine, Mayuri Kyatari, owing to certain circumstances. 'Nataraja is a thief, but not one with lofty ambitions. He is a poor soul who cannot even afford a mobile phone, but he is far from upset about that and finds happiness even within his limited means. The beauty of the characterization is that when audiences watch the film, they will be compelled to think of the happiness they can derive from little things in life. Also, if you look at the title, it is the colloquial term for someone who is forced to walk because he/she cannot afford or has no access to any other form of transportation. But if you scratch the surface, you will see that it is also an exploration of the journey of life with all its ups and downs. And that, for me, makes this role special,' says Sharan.
