My faces suits Veer Savarkar’s character, says Suneel Rao

Actor Suneel Rao, last seen in Thurthu Nirgamana, is getting set for his first biopic based on the life of freedom fighter, social activist and writer Veer Savarkar, who has been the topic of controversy regarding Hindutva philosophy, and alleged link to Mahatma Gandhi’s assassination recently. The movie, helmed by Radhakrishna Pallaki, will see Suneel deep dive into Savarkar’s life.
‘Important to get into the psyche of Savarkar’s character’
Suneel is excited to portray Veer Savarkar, and has already begun preparing for the role, mentally, “It is the kind of role that defines you as an actor,” he says.
“I am glad I got this after being in the industry for years. Initially, my goal is to get into the psyche of the character, which is a paramount while doing a biopic. I am also reading content provided by director Radhakrishna without relying much on outside information,” says Suneel.

Getting factual about Veer’s life
Doing a biopic is challenging, and Suneel says, “A lot has been spoken and written about Veer Savarkar as a historical figure, so we are trying to keep it factual which is a tough task. I am also working on body language and mannerisms as we get closer to the shooting, and trying to lose a little weight.”
Facial structure suits the character
Having similar facial features, Suneel feels, is a blessing in donning Veer Savarkar character, “It works to my advantage as I have a facial structure which suits the character. We have a photo of my grandfather with head gear at home which is so similar to Veer Savarkar, and it impressed the team. I am eager to begin shooting by the end of March.”
