Filmmaker Yogaraj Bhat is known for his films about love and relationships. But this Friday will see him explore a different genre with the release of Garadi — action. The film, which will also see Soorya, Sonal Monteiro, Sujay Belur and B C Patil in lead roles, delves deep into the sport of wrestling. Yogaraj Bhat tells us more. Excerpts:
‘I have always wanted to do an action film’
I am a huge fan of action films and always wanted to work on one. This wish has come true with Garadi. Although its action, love has a strong place in this film.
‘Wrestling requires so much hard work’The film explores the sport of wrestling and I thought it would be the right script to try out. I’ve also participated in wrestling in my younger days – however, I never thought it would require so much stamina, hard work, and perseverance. I only realised this when we went on the floors.
‘The film follows a Dronacharya-Ekalvya concept’The core of the film is based on the Dronacharya and Ekalavya story. Even behind the scenes, we had Desi Gowdru, a real wrestler train actors Soorya and Sujay so that the fights look authentic.
‘Darshan’s appearance in the film will be a treat for fans’Darshan’s appearance in the movie should not be missed. His entry certainly takes the movie a notch higher in the climax. I must appreciate his generosity. It is because of him we cast Soorya. This kind of support is needed for the young crop of actors to flourish in the industry.
