Actor-turned-politician Mukyamantri Chandru wants filmmakers to stop using English or any other languages, except for Kannada in films’ title. Chandru has asked the government to stop giving exemption from entertainment tax and awards to films having titles other than in Kannada. "I am not against non-Kannada titles in the movies, it is up to the makers.
But these movies should not be considered for benefits. I am an actor by profession, I will definitely act if given an offer in non-Kannada titles. As a chairman of the authority, I oppose seeking benefits from the government," he said, who is also the Kannada Development Authority (KDA) chairman.
"To face the world, English should be taught as a subject. English should also taught in anaganawadi centres," he added. However, Chandru himself has acted in films with English words in them--
Challenge Gopala Krishna, Policena Hendathi, Ready Made Ganda and others—to name a few.
