Mini movies on the mind

There has been a recent boom in the popularity of short films across the country, with social media giving them increased viewership. A group of young short film enthusiasts in the city have decided to screen short films every alternate weekend at venues across the city.
Most makers of short films struggle to find big screen platforms for their films,which primarily get screened at either film festivals or are released online.To address the problem, Transition 4.1 will host screenings of short films through many mini theatres which have mushroomed across Bangalore.
The preview session of this venture will see four short films by four directors, followed by a discussion with the filmmakers and industry experts such as award-winning filmmaker TS Nagabharana, Chaitanya KM, the director of Aa dinagalu, D Suman Kittur, director of Edegaarike, and popular film journalist Gourish Akki who is venturing into directorial territory with his debut directorial venture Cinema My Darling.
“Short films have come a long way from being crude experiments,to valid art forms. This is an attempt to showcase the efforts of the entire community of creative artists who chose it as medium of expression,” says filmmaker Raghunandan Kaanadka, whose short film Hot Seat (in pic) is one of the four that will be screened this weekend.
Kaanadka conceptualised the venture with co- filmmaker Madan Ramvenkatesh. “This way the films make a transition from private viewing to public screenings, and the filmmakers and cast get exposure,” he says.
There’s also a treat in store for the audience at this weekend’s screening. With the cast and crew of the short films, they will have an opportunity to be a part of full-fledged feature film, as filmmaker Basavraj Itnal, who supports the venture, will provide a chance to join him in his upcoming feature film titled IT’s complicated.
