Meghana Raj is making a comeback with a thriller

It was a busy Sunday for Meghana Raj, who was juggling between caring for her son, Raayan Sarja, and retweeting the overwhelming love she is receiving for her comeback project. Titled Tatsama Tadbhava (meaning synonyms), the movie is directed by newbie Vishal Atreya.
Meghana is thrilled to finally present it in front of her fans, who have been demanding her comeback for a while now. Spilling beans about the project, Meghana says, “This is a very different thriller. The audience won’t be just mute spectators witnessing someone else solve the crime. They are, in fact, the investigators who put the pieces together,” she says.

The makers are planning to release the film in Kannada and Malayalam in April. “This is the first time the industry has come together for a poster launch. I am grateful,” she says, about the overwhelming response to her first look.

An emotional journey
In the movie, Meghana plays a sober middle-class girl whose life changes overnight. “She has a monotonous life, but once the pattern is broken, everything changes. She then has to put the pieces together, understand how and what happened, and fight her way out of it. While Aatagara was a thriller, this is something that I have never tried, and I have pushed myself to a great extent,” she shares.
Shooting a few important scenes in the film was emotionally draining, she says, “Since I am personally connected with the role and the project, I wanted it to shape out in a certain way. I was being too strict on myself. I wanted the exact output I had in mind, and hence it became emotionally draining,” she says.

Why a thriller?

“An incident on a Sunday in 2020 changed my life (her husband’s untimely demise). After that, I had no plans for a comeback, and just wanted to be a stay-at-home mom. Three years later, on a Sunday, in 2023, I am announcing the comeback project. It just feels surreal,” she admits.
“Last year, Panna (director Pannaga Bharana) sent his friend Vishal to narrate the story. I thought he just wanted my opinion on it. But, when I heard the script, I connected with it instantly and could imagine myself in the role. I called Panna and told him it was an amazing project and he should go ahead with it. He asked if I was ready for a comeback! A return to acting was the last thing on my mind. But, I am so glad I am doing it with Tatsama Tadbhava,” Meghana concludes.
