May 1st is a horror film, but one tailored for family audiences

The film has been written by lead actor J Karthik
When

May 1st

hits theatres today, it is a moment of reckoning for its lead actor

J Karthik

. It is, after all, a film that he has written and he is anxious to see how audiences accept this figment of his imagination.
“The script is the hero of the film, and has a lot of twists and turns, most of which will take audiences by surprise and have them wondering who is what in the film,” says JK, adding, “After I wrote the script, I ran it by editor-director Nagendra Urs, who launched me as a lead hero in

Just Love

.”

JK adds, “I trust Nagendra’s judgment and he suggested a few changes to make the film more commercial. In the bargain, May 1st became a

horror

film that was cleared with a U/A certificate.”
Produced by Sri Sai Lakshmi Creations, May 1st is a landmark movie for Nagendra as editor. “This is my 200th film as editor and eighth as director. I really liked the subject when JK told me about it and helped him add a few elements that heighten the curiosity and thrill factor. I also got him to add a fight and a couple of songs. But the most important part is that as a horror film we have taken extra care to ensure that the portrayal of a ghost is not as ghastly as we see in most films. JK has a lot of family audience fans, including kids, and we did not want to exclude them from watching this film,” says Nagendra.
JK adds that the background score and cinematography elevate the narrative. “May 1st is a technically well-made film that will truly involve the audience in what is going on onscreen. The visuals, by four budding cinematographers, will be a treat,” adds the actor.
