Rakesh Maiya has been dabbling with theatre and short films for a while, but it was

that truly put him in the spotlight. The serial, though, had an abrupt ending in the midst of the pandemic last year, which then paved way for Rakesh to broaden his horizons. The actor is now set to debut as hero in

Saddu Vichaarane Nadeyuttide

, to be directed by debutant Bhaskar Ninasam. “It’s a suspense thriller and pairs me with Paavana Gowda of

fame,” says Rakesh, adding, “Although, I have done two films, 96 and Shubhamangala, I was not the main lead. So, this is an exciting prospect.”
Rakesh also tells us that he doesn’t subscribe to the archetypal Kannada film hero image. “I’m not looking for an introduction song or to sport a beefed up body. My idea of a film hero is more realistic and I think my personality is more suited to that,” he says. In Saddu Vichaarane Nadeyuttide, for instance, he will sport a beard for a more serious image. “People have always thought of me as the quiet boy-next-door kind, especially after Magalu Janaki. This role comes as a sea change after that,” points out Rakesh adding that he has a romantic song and even a fight sequence in the film” he signs off.
