National Award-winning director Kishan Shrikanth, who ventured into filmmaking at the age of nine with Care of Footpath, is currently working on his next untitled Kannada film, which deals with the issue of juvenile delinquents.
Kishan (popularly known as Master Kishan), who has entered the
Guinness World Records for being the world’s youngest filmmaker, is busy spending his time researching juveniles by visiting slum areas and juvenile homes.
Having spent a lot of time with the underprivileged children, mostly caught on the wrong side of the law, the young filmmaker seems to have developed a special bond with them, and is ready to stand up for them when the need arises.
“The whole country seems to be up in arms against erring juveniles. Everyone is demanding the death penalty for them in the wake of recent rape cases. But does anyone really consider as to what leads them to commit various crimes?” asks Kishan. “They are a deprived lot and that is how they get into various crimes,” he adds. Kishan feels the attitude of society towards juvenile delinquents should change so that change is brought about in their lives.
