Kavya Shetty says she play the Ravana to Yogi’s Rama in Lanke
Lanke, which was scheduled to release last month, is now releasing on September 10 coinciding with Ganesha Habba. The film, directed by Ram Prasad, has a big ensemble cast and is based on a true incident. Kavya Shetty is excited about this film as she plays the negative lead, as first in her career.
"This is my first out and out negative character and my character has dual shades.

While she is the antagonist, there are some human emotions to her as well. I even got to be a part of a fight, which involves me not just taking on Krishi Thapanda, but Yogi too. It was exciting. If I were to describe my role, she is the Ravana to Yogi's Rama in this tale," says Kavya.
The actress is also thrilled because this is atypical to what people have seen of her. "Usually most actresses get offered lover girl roles, which has been the case for me too. Playing a negative role is not easy. It is quite tricky and involves a lot more effort, right from your body language to the way you talk. I play the typical villain. I was initially approached for another role, but the director convinced me that I was apt for this," shares she.
Will she want to do another such role again? "It is very hard. It is a gamble and I know if it works this time, I will be offered similar roles in the future for sure. But, I don't think I will do another one again unless it is compelling, as it is exhausting. I am glad that I did this though, it was the perfect opportunity for me to experiment with such a character," she shares.
The other reason that Kavya is excited is because, like many others, she has not had any of her films release for over two years, thanks to the pandemic. "This film was ready before the pandemic, but has seen a delay. I have not had these jitters of a release for a long time and I am eager to see myself on the big screen. I have more films lined up too, so this will make up for that delay," she laughs.
