More than 200 Kannada films release each year, out of which several are women-oriented movies and a few are remakes from other languages. 2019 saw several Kannada movies which are inspired from other movies and here’s taking a look at the top five remakes which released this year.
Kavacha
Shivarajkumar had announced decades ago that he would never work in a remake but he broke the record as he featured in the remake of Malayalam movie 'Oppam'. Shivarajkumar, who liked the story of the Malayalam film, decided to take up the role. He essayed a blind man in the film. Despite efforts, the film didn’t make much mark at the box office.

Vijay Sethupathi and Trisha starrer Tamil film '96' was remake in Kannada as ‘99’ by filmmaker Preetham Gubbi. It featured Ganesh and Bhavana in the lead role. While the Tamil film was a huge hit, its Kannada remake failed miserably.
'Paddehuli'
Producer K Manju's son Shreyas marked his Sandalwood debut with ‘Padde Huli’, which was a remake of hit Tamil film ‘Meesaye
Murukku
'. The movie didn't grab much attention despite a guest appearance by
Rakshit Shetty and Puneeth Rajkumar. Despite the poor response, Shreyas managed to impress the Kannada audience with his acting.
Sinnga
‘Sinnga’ is the remake of 2013 Tamil movie ‘Kutti Puli’. Director Vijay Kiran decided to remake the film in Kannada and made a lot of changes in the original story. ‘Sinnga’ received a positive response at the box office.
Gimmick
‘Gimmick’ is a horror comedy directed by Naganna and produced by Deepak Samidurai. It featured Ganesh Ronica Singh, Chi Guru Dutt,
Shobaraj, Ravishankar Gowda and Sundar Raj. ‘Gimmick’ was a remake of Tamil film 'Dhillukku Duddu' which featured Santhanam.
