The Karnataka government has filed a Special Leave Petition in the High Court to challenge the decision of interim bail of the Kannada actor Darshan Thoogudeepa. Darshan was granted interim bail on October 30, 2024, for six weeks due to health issues, specifically severe back pain that required spine surgery. However, the government is contesting this bail, stating that it undermines the severity of the murder case he is involved in.

The Karnataka Police Commissioner, B. Dayanand, in the earlier month, publicly stated his intention to contest Darshan's bail. As per a report by Pinkvilla, a Special Leave Petition has been filed by the Karnataka government in the High Court, challenging the interim bail granted to Darshan Thoogudeepa on October 30. The petition challenging the bail is expected to be heard soon, either at the end of this week or early next week.

In related developments, Pavithra Gowda has also sought bail, arguing against any conspiracy claims related to the murder. Her legal team emphasized that she was not involved in planning or executing the crime and described the incident as a "stray occurrence" in her otherwise clean life. Pavithra expressed distress over Renukaswamy's inappropriate messages but maintained that she did not conspire with Darshan or others to harm him.

Darshan has been accused in the murder of 33-year-old Renukaswamy, a fan who allegedly sent inappropriate messages to Pavithra Gowda, a co-accused in the case. The police allege that Darshan and his associates tortured and killed Renukaswamy after luring him under false pretenses. The victim's body was discovered near a stormwater drain, and a post-mortem report indicated he died from shock and hemorrhage due to multiple blunt force injuries.
