Karaga festival is an integral part of Kaiva: Director Jayathirtha

Filmmaker Jayathirtha has collaborated with actors Dhanveerrah and Megha Shetty for his upcoming film, Kaiva. The story is said to be inspired by true events that took place during a Karaga festival in 1983.

“I have a special love towards folk culture which can be seen in all of my previous films. The main plot point took place during the Karaga festival, which spurred me to showcase it on screen in all its glory. This is a romantic love story of a couple belonging to different religions, intertwined with raw action,” says Jayathirtha. “Since the film is set in the 1980s, we decided to shoot in Mysuru as that city still retains its old-school charm,” he adds.
On casting Dhanveerrah and Megha, the director states, “I have interacted with the real person on whom the character of Kaiva has been sketched. Since Dhanveerrah has similar looks and can carry that 1980s vibe, we picked him as the lead. For the female lead, we required someone who looked innocent and charming, and Megha fit the bill. The chemistry between the duo has created magic on the screen.”
