Kannadigas bid adieu to poet KS Nisar Ahmed

Filmmaker Rajendra Singh Babu remembers the renowned literary fig... Read More
I was a great fan of his writing from my college days, when I had a couple of songs of his in a textbook. I was especially fond of

Mysore Ananthaswamy

’s rendition of Kurigalu

Saar

Kurigalu. When I had a film for which that was the appropriate title, I went to Nisar sir’s home and told him that I wanted to use that line from his political satire poem as the title. He agreed, but when I tried to offer him some monetary compensation for the title, he refused. He said that it wasn’t a good idea as it would put a price to his work. He was part of our 100th day celebrations too and we felicitated him then. Nisar Ahmed was close to many people from the film industry. Many of us, including late Dr Rajkumar, loved the biryani in his house. In the 90s, we had a seminar on bridging the gap between

literature

and cinema. He said it is important for films and literature to walk hand-in-hand. He was against remakes and wanted us to make films that had a more literary touch to them. His passing is a big loss to the literary world. He was blessed with good writing skills. Creative people usually are blessed and he had the blessings of God, and that reflects with how we sing his poetry at any Kannada or literary gathering.

He was a force in Kannada literature. His

Kurigalu

sir kurigalu, referring to herd mentality of public, became first title of our superhit sir comedy series. He was very cordial and warm to me whenever I met him in filmi functions. I will always remember him in suit and tie.

is no more. This is a big loss to the
literary world.

Nisar Ahmed, the man who gave us Nityotsava, is no more. His contribution to literature remains immortal.
