Happy when people appreciate your work: Jassie Gift

The upcoming Kannada film

Crazy Boy

will mark composer Jassie Gift's first release for the year, his last being Luv U Alia, which had several chart toppers. Crazy Boy is also following suit, with several of the six tracks on the OST on music charts. 'It's very satisfying when people appreciate your work and I am glad it is happening with this film again. The makers of Crazy Boy, especially director Mahesh Babu, gave me a free hand in deciding the kind of tunes I composed. The only brief I got was that they needed an equal mix of melody and dance tracks. In fact, even the choice of singers was left to me,' says Jassie.
Hence, for his personal favourite song,

Vinanthi Madalilla

, the composer got Shaan and

Shreya Goshal

to collaborate, in a repeat of sorts of their 2007 song

Yeno Onthara

from

Hudugaata

.
'Yeno Onthara was widely appreciated and, now, Vinanthi Madalilla has already had over three lakh views since we released the video online,' says Jassie. The album also has a number sung by Power Star Puneeth Rajkumar, who is slowly and steadily becoming a regular feature on the Kannada playback scene. 'I've been wanting to work with him for a while and got him to sing Thirugi Node Gantogalla, a fast-paced dance number. Puneeth is a good singer, but his voice is often drowned out by the beats of the music, so my endeavour was to ensure that he is heard loud and clear,' explains Jassie, who used singers like Tippu, Aalaap Raj and Rajesh Krishnan for the rest of the album.
Despite his fairly good track record in Sandalwood, one wonders why the composer is not heard more often in Kannada, especially considering that he has been living in Bengaluru for a while. 'There are a couple of reasons that come to mind. For starters, I take up only those projects that allow me at least three months to work on the tunes, and secondly, I have taken up films that, for reasons unknown to me, have not seen the light of day. I do hope to be more prolific in the future and have a couple of projects ' Mr Jani and Prema Baraha ' lined up for the year,' he signs off.
